Hurricane Alex

Hurricane Alex

Great timing for last week... if it had been this week, we'd probably have had to scrap the whole deal. I do not want to think about paddling a small kayak in 14-ft waves offshore and 50mph+ winds. I wouldn't want to be in any boat in those conditions... Well, may a Nimitz-class, but that's about it.

I was thinking about that driving home from work last night. Despite the rough seas and high winds, the wind direction would not have been favorable.

Yes. I suspect that 50 mph NE winds would have been a bit annoying at times.

Listening to NPR, I heard something unexpected this morning - Dennis from South Padre Island talking about paddling the Texas Coast in May, and now paddling down the street on SPI. Nice...

Congrats on your 15 minutes of semi-fame. It is NPR, after all... I don't see his quote on the NPR website, but it was on the air this morning.

We did get lucky with the wx. BUT we sure could have used another 10kts of wind each day. The most excitement we had was sailing down 4-5ft rollers with a 12kt tailwind to maggie beach friday afternoon!

Tides have just got back to normal this week. We had flooding in Portland around the causeway for the past 3 weeks. I guess with all the rain and Alex we couldn't get the water out of the jetties fast enough!
