Will be doing Class 1 again, and looking forward to seeing everyone, and watching John sail away from me in that O'Day 17. Olivier, my crew from last year, sends his best. He was going to come in his Goat Island Skiff this year, but he and his wife are expecting their first. Due date of May 9. So he'll be navigating a different kind of challenge!

I only hope that I can. Your experience and treachery will likely defeat my enthusiasm!

I was planning on following you anyway.

(I was going to say "old age" in reference to you and "youthful" in reference to me, but neither would be exactly true!) :)

Gary,

You're in trouble now. I painted my centerboard tonight.

John:
Oh, I think the age comparisons are accurate. Which reminds me of a great t-shirt Doug Cameron had, which had been made up for a group of older river kayaking enthusiasts who were competing against some young turks. The shirt said something like 'Old and treacherous beats youth and enthusiasm every time!'

Like the centerboard. We should be able to find you at night as that thing will make the whole boat glow . . . :P

It is a nice emergency flag to raise should you ever turn turtle!

Actually Scott, having a bright orange beacon in case I was to turtle the boat was why I did it. I'll probably put some reflective paint or tape on the tip for the EC next year as well.

I had the boat in the water testing all my leak reduction repairs today. I was surprised that I could see it glowing under water even at the dock at Allatoona. It looked kind of cool. I decided not to sail today, though. It was blowing 19-30 at the lake this afternoon and I don't have my reefing gear installed yet. That gets done this week once I get all the bits in mail.
